So As it was a destination wedding and a two day affair, we had the detailed Haldi ceremony a few days before the actual haldi day.
Haldi at Home
The Haldi was to be a combined function with both me and the boy together. But there are several other things and pooja, etc. that has to be done before applying Haldi. So due to the obvious practical reasons, we had a small haldi at my home. It was really special and intimate with just my parents, punditji and my aunts in the presence(Who stayed locally- my Mausis and bua). Also due to this, one important ritual occured in my home itself 🙂 Sharing a small collage of pictures from that event!!
Outfit for Haldi at home- Pink Tie Dye Mirror Work Top and white trousers from FBB
Then the day arrived and we flew to Dehradun from Lucknow. We wore matching Bride & Groom t shirts for travelling 😀 (yup,we are literally in chappals!!). Got the t-shirts from Amazon. P.S. that hanky tied on my wrist is to hide that thing tied on my wrist during haldi.( to protect bride from Buri Nazar 😬)
After we reached Mussourie, the weather was a total surprise. I mean it was raining a bit but the most surprising part was that it was foggy all around. Yes, there was fog like everywhere at 5 pm in the evening in the month of July!! We landed at the Dehradun airport and we couldn’t see the mountains as we saw the first time. We both were like are you freaking kidding me?
Anyways I got my mehendi done the same night at the hotel so that I could be free to enjoy my mehendi and sangeet function the next day.
Thats me, all mehendi laden hands!! That gap is to write the boy’s name in the mehendi function the next day. The boy and my brother were sitting besides me the entire time I was getting my mehendi done. Boy kept feeding me water and food 🙂 (I wish i had pictures of those cute moments !!
The next day we got up to sounds of heavy rains. We had not anticipated this kind of weather!! It rained for the entire night and then up to 10 am in the morning. Thankfully, it stopped raining after that and the panic subsided. All the guests had arrived until then. We had breakfast with our family and friends and got them settled in their rooms.
Initially, we had planned of having the haldi in the covered area in the lawn. We had planned all the decor ,color scheme & everything. But due to the rains, we had to shift the venue indoor and have it in the hallway of the cottage our families were staying in. As they say, you must have back up options in case of weddings, no matter what. You never know what kinds of situations arise!!
The lesson here is not to panic and just go along the situation while finding a solution. The function got a bit delayed due to all of this and the decor was not as we had planned. Anyways, this was a sweet intimate ceremony hence the closed hallways worked out perfectly.
Before starting the haldi, the boy took me out in the garden away from everyone and there was our photographer Simron waiting for us. I was really panicked until then. This was the much needed break I needed. She clicked some beautiful couple portraits of us together!! The three of us had so much fun clicking these pictures and we also got a one on one time with our photographer to get comfortable with the camera. Sharing some Pictures from our Couple shoot 🙂
P.S. We never had an official pre-wedding photoshoot because honestly they are so overated. Also, we have been together for 8 years so we have about 100 GB of pre-wedding photos already!! 😛
Outfit: Plain Chiffon Orange Saree with Brocade blouse
Jewellery: Kushal arts flower jewellery(Find them on instagram here)
I got ready on my own, draped saree on my own(Super proud of that) and did my own makeup.
The boy wore a simple dhoti and yellow kurta from FBB. He forgot to bring the original kurta in Mumbai so we got this one 3 days before the wedding.
The haldi was double the fun due to both sides being present together!! Why don’t people have a combined haldi? If you are still contemplating, I say have it. You will have a ball for sure and make a lifetime of memories. Haldi was all about fun and as we have so many common friends, we literally couldn’t stop laughing the entire ceremony!!
A few pictures from the combined haldi ceremony-
After the family put haldi on us, it was time for friends. Just look at the boy’s expression when the friends started putting haldi on him 😛
So the haldi was a super fun event. It got a bit delayed due to rains and the decor was not like the one we planned but still it was the cutest function!! The foggy weather in fact lended such a dreamy vibe to the place!! No one could have ever imagined such a weather in Mussoorie in Summers. The photographs came out so so beautiful due to that.
